Philips denies knowledge of bribery in Poland
Philips Medical Systems Nederland BV played an “active and clear” role in a Polish bribery case according to the Dutch Public Prosecution Office. Dutch public television NOS reported on Monday that the PPO in Einhoven has allegedly discovered incriminating emails. Philips denies any knowledge of bribery in Poland.
Between 2000 and 2007, hospital doctors in Poland were bribed on a large scale to buy Philips products. The case came to light when an intermediary had a row with a top Polish Philips executive and went to the police. On Wednesday, the trial of two Philips executives begins in Poland.
In response to the NOS reports, Philips says “the quotes reported by the NOS are not in documents known to Philips.” The electronics company also disputes that the company itself is suspected of bribery. Philips points out that the company is not being prosecuted and that the Public Prosecution has indicated this.
After carrying out its own investigation, which is ongoing, Philips has concluded that Philips Netherlands was not aware of any alleged bribery practices in Poland.
