AMSTERDAM — Police in Zeeland and Turkey have arrested 19 people in connection with an international people smuggling operation.

Two suspects were held in the southern Dutch province and 17 people were arrested in Turkey.

The arrests followed a joint operation between police officers in the Netherlands, Turkey and the Czech republic.

Justice authorities have not ruled out the possibility of further arrests.

The 19 arrests were announced by the public prosecution office in Middelburg on Monday.

The suspects are accused of involvement in a people smuggling gang, but no further details were immediately available.
