Parting of ways for Adriaanse and FC Twente

Top Dutch Premier League side FC Twente today confirmed rumours that manager Co Adriaanse is leaving the club. A press conference with the club’s chairman Joop Munsterman is scheduled for later today.

Adriaanse’s departure is not due to disappointing results. Twente is riding high near the top of the league, only five points behind leader AZ. The NOS website reports that friction between Adriaanse and some of the players and training staff is the most likely reason for the split.

Co Adriaanse took over at FC Twente at the start of the season. He had a one-year contract. Former coach of England’s national squad Steve McClaren has been tipped as his successor. Under his leadership, FC Twente became league champions in 2010. Last season, Belgian Michel Preud'homme led the club to victory in the Dutch FA Cup.
