AMSTERDAM – A majority in Parliament thinks that the Netherlands and the EU should re-open dialogue with the Palestinian government.

Christian democrat CDA, Labour PvdA and the Socialist party SP are going to urge Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen to resume diplomatic relations with the Palestinians.

Parliament sees the new Palestinian government of Fatah and Hamas as a step forward. The PvdA says that the EU should once again get actively involved in the peace process and try to persuade the Palestinian government to recognise Israel and condemn the use of violence.

Opposition party Liberal VVD thinks that CDA, PvdA and SP are rushing things. The VVD thinks it is still too early to resume talks with the Palestinians.
