THE HAGUE – Parliament is upset with Development Cooperation Minister Bert Koenders' decision to grant a contract for organising an event to an agency with which he has friendly ties.

The Liberal VVD has demanded an explanation. The Socialist SP and Freedom party PVV are also critical. The Christian democrat CDA and PVV posed questions to the minister.

Koenders granted the contract for organising the event entitled "Het Akkoord van Schokland" to the BKB bureau, headed by Lennart Booij and Erik van Bruggen. They are both members of the Labour party PvdA and participated in the PvdA campaign for the parliamentary elections.

European regulations stipulate that the contract should have been publicly tendered, but Koenders says there was no time for this procedure.
