Parliament opposed to Indonesia tank deal

The Dutch parliament is opposed to the possible sale of Dutch Leopard tanks to Indonesia.

Indonesia recently expressed an interest in taking over the tanks from the Dutch army, which is selling the Leopards as the result of major budget cuts.

The defence ministry is investigating the possibility of a deal with Indonesia, but Green Left MP Arjan El Fassed said in parliament that selling tanks to an army which has been implicated in human rights violations is out of the question.

A majority in parliament supported his position.
