10 May 2007, THE HAGUE – Some 200 employees had to be evacuated from the Parliament building this afternoon just after 1 pm because of a fire.

THE HAGUE – Some 200 employees had to be evacuated from the Parliament building this afternoon just after 1 pm because of a fire.

The building has been cordoned off and is being ventilated. The fire broke out in a small kitchen area, according to police and fire officials.

Workers in the building tried to put the fire out but were forced to abandon their efforts when the sprinkler system was activated by the smoke.

The fire brigade managed to put the fire out.
