Parents relax while kids work

On 19 April, Expatica brought together a number of expat families to enjoy a sunny Sunday afternoon in Amsterdam’s Vondelpark.

Mind your fingersAt least the parents sat down, mingled and relaxed, while the kids were hard at work in the kitchen to making high tea.

Under the supervision of a professional chef, who told them to make as much mess as necessary, the children from six upwards learned how to make chocolates filled with walnuts, ‘crunchies’, tuna sandwiches and mysterious puzzle bites. They then stepped into the sun with proud faces to serve these delicacies to their guests.

Meanwhile, their younger siblings, or mini chefs, were not lying down at the job: they were given the task of ‘decorating cupcakes’, a.k.a. ‘licking sugar glazing off the brush’.

Chocolate icing--Yummy!Blue Umbrella sponsored a light lunch for the parents during the workshop and made sure that every child was happily occupied.

Upon popular request, Expatica and partners plan another children’s cooking workshop for August.
