AMSTERDAM – The Palestinian Platform for Human Rights and Solidarity (PPMS) wants Parliament to urge Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen to allow a visa to be issued to Palestinian prime minister Ismail Haniyeh.

The PPMS has invited Haniyeh to the Netherlands for the fifth Palestinian European conference on 5 May, but Verhagen does not want to grant the politician entry to the country. Haniyeh is a member of the Hamas party, regarded as a terrorist organisation by the European Union.

The platform said on Tuesday in a letter that it is "surprised and deeply disappointed" at the decision.
