UTRECHT -- A 56-year-old paedophile living in Utrecht has been ordered by a judge to leave his home as he cannot live in the same apartment building as his five-year-old victim.

The man was sentenced to prison in 2007 for abusing a neighbouring child. Upon serving his sentence, he was offered another place to live but decided to return to his former home.

A judge in Utrecht has ruled that the man need to leave the apartment as soon as another location becomes available.

The case gained widespread publicity last week when the mayor of Utrecht said paedophiles could not return to stay at their former homes after completing their punishment. His views received support from parliament and the mayors of several other big cities.
