PSV consolidates lead in Dutch premier league

PSV has won the last premier league match before the winter recess. Coach Rutten's team beat Roda JC 3-1 in a home game, consolidating its lead position. Competitors FC Twente and Ajax, did not play this weekend due to the extreme weather.

Jeremain Lens, Marcus Berg and Balázs Dzsudzsák scored for PSV. Anouar Hadouir scored the one goal for Roda JC, which is now in a shared fifth position. PSV player Jonathan Reis sustained a serious injury to his knee quite early in the game. His team mate Ibrahim Afellay played his last home game for PSV today. The international will travel to Catalonia on Thursday to sign a contract with FC Barcelona.

PSV and Roda JC will play eachother again in Kerkrade on Wednesday as part of the cup competition .

Other premier league results this weekend: sc Heerenveen - De Graafschap: 4-0 NAC Breda - Vitesse: 1-1 Excelsior - FC Groningen: 2-2 ADO Den Haag - Willem II: 2-1

The Dutch football union KNVB wants all matches that were cancelled today to be played on the same date. A spokesperson said on Sunday that the matches FC Twente-Heracles Almelo, Ajax-Feyenoord and AZ-NEC will be played on 19 January, the match between VVV and FC Utrecht is also to be played on that date. However,the new date will be reconsidered should one of the cup competition matches FC Twente-Vitesse, Ajax-AZ or FC Utrecht-FC Volendam be cancelled.
