PSV beats Debrecen in Europa League, FC Utrecht plays a draw with Steaua Bucharest

In group K of the Europa League, FC Utrecht has played a drawn game for the third time in a row. The squad of coach Ton du Chatinier in a home game got no further than a 1-1 draw against Steaua Bucharest. Earlier matches against Napoli and Liverpool ended in 0-0.

One hour into the match, Edouard Duplan scored FC Utrecht’s first goal in the group phase of the Europa League. One quarter of an hour before the final whistle FC Utrecht defender Alje Schut scored an own goal from a free kick. The two teams will meet again in Romania on the 4 November. FC Utrecht has three points in Group K, Steaua has two.

PSV has won its second away match in the group phase of the Europa League. PSV, leader in the Dutch Premier League, in Budapest on Thursday beat Hungarian champion Debrecen 2-1. With seven points from three matches, PSV is now frontrunner in Group I.

Coach Fred Rutten’s squad surprisingly fell behind when Mirsad Mijadinoski scored a goal in the 35th minute, but Orlando Engelaar scored the equaliser five minutes later. Jonathan Reis scored the deciding goal halfway through the second half.

PSV earlier beat Metalist Charkov and played a drawn game at home against Sampdoria. In two weeks PSV will play a home game against Debrecen, which so far has not won any points at all.
