PSV beat Metalist Charkiv in Europa league

In the group stage of the UEFA Europa League, Eindhoven’s PSV has beaten Ukraine’s Metalist Charkiv 0-2 in an away game. As a result, the Dutch club is leading group I with four points after two matches.

Metalist Charkiv were down one man after defender Cristian Villagra was sent off in the 25th minute. Meanwhile Balázs Dzsudzsák took advantage of a penalty and Marcus Berg scored again minutes later.

In group K, FC Utrecht drew 0-0 against Liverpool in Utrecht’s sold-out Galgenwaard Stadium. The home team played well against Liverpool and more opportunities to score in the first half. A goal by Jan Wuytens was disallowed because of a foul by Jacob Mulenga. Former FC Utrecht player Dirk Kuijt received loud applause as he came onto the field as Liverpool striker.

In group E, BATE Borisov from Belarus beat Alkmaar’s AZ 4-1 in Minsk. For BATE Borisov goals were scored by Vitali Rodionov, Artyom Konshevoy, Renan Bressan and Edgar Olekhnovich. AZ were only able to score in the 89th minute with a goal by Kolbeinn Sigthorsson. In spite of the poor play, AZ are still second in the group.
