PSV and FC Twente in quarter finals
PSV and FC Twente are both through to the quarter finals of the Europa League.
Premier league leader PSV have won at Ibrox Park against Glasgow Rangers 1-0. The one and only goal of the match came in the 13th minute by Jeremain Lens. Last week's match ended in a goalless draw.
The last time the Eindhoven club made it this far in what used to be the UEFA Cup was in 2008.
FC Twente In spite of losing 2-0 to Zenit St Petersburg, FC Twente has also managed to place itself in the quarter finals. The team from the southern city of Enschede beat the Russians 3-0 at home last week.
Tonight both goals fell in the first half. Roman Shirokov opened the scoring after just over 15 minutes. Aleksandr Kerzhakov netted the second goal eight minutes before the break. The team from Enschede managed with difficulty to prevent Zenit scoring more goals in the second half.
The draw for the Europa League quarter finals will take place in the Swiss city of Nyon on Friday.
Ajax out Meanwhile, Ajax has lost 3-0 to Spartak Moscow during the return match in Russia. Ajax started the match behind Moscow, losing last week's home game 1-0. As a result, the Amsterdammers leave the competition.
Dimitri Kombarov and Welliton scored for Spartak Moscow within a half hour, putting the Russians quickly in the lead. Alex put the ball in the net for the third time after 54 minutes.
In the Dutch competition, PSV, FC Twente and Ajax are competing for the premier league title. With seven matches to go, Ajax is in third place, just a couple of points behind PSV.
