NIEUWEGEIN – Large-scale fraud involving PIN cards took place at the Praxis on the Ravenswade in Nieuwegein between 26 July and 4 August, police reported on Sunday night.

A company that handles PIN transactions noticed the fraud. Information from thousands of customers' PIN cards was copied on automated payment equipment during the period in question. This practice, called "skimming," allows defrauders to take money from the accounts of people who have swiped their cards in the machine.

The police are calling on people who have noticed money missing from their account to contact their banks, rather than file a report with police. The banks will then file a joint report and compensate victims.
