THE HAGUE – It has become even easier to register as an organ donor. Individuals are no longer limited to the old paper form but can also register online.

The launch of the website donorregister.nl fulfils the promise made by former Public Health Minister Hans Hoogervorst to further simplify the donor registration system.

The website is not only intended for Dutch people who want to register as donors, but also for those who want to see the choice they have made in the past and change it if they wish. In order to gain access to the digital register visitors must enter their DigiD code, the digital ‘passport' for government services. This aims to protect privacy.

A campaign to raise awareness of the new website will start on television and internet this week. More than seven million Dutch people still haven't registered to indicate whether their organs may be used after their death.
