Online help for women who had abortion

26th October 2010, Comments 0 comments

A new online support service will be available to women who have difficulty getting over the psychological effects of abortion.

The national welfare and well-being organisation Ambulante Fiom announced on Tuesday that it is starting a secure website to help those who are unable to process the experience by themselves.

Some 33,000 women have an abortion each year in the Netherlands. The majority of the women don't suffer from long-term negative effects, but one in five is likely to experience mental health problems, ranging from a mild depression to severe anxiety disorders. The new website will provide information on how to deal with the trauma of abortion. The user will also be able to chat to a councillor online.
