AMSTERDAM – Digital giro credit slips are a step closer to reality.
Four big banks and TPG Post announced on Monday they had reached agreement on the way bills should be paid over the Internet.
The digital acceptgiro will be introduced in the first half of next year, according to Rabobank, ABN Amro, ING Bank, Postbank and TPG Post.
Consumers and businesses will receive bills online and be able to pay them immediately by means of Internet banking.
The four banks say they expect others to adopt the new payment method, which is meant to become a new standard.
Some large companies have already said they will use digital billing.
Three in five Dutch households regularly use Internet banking.
