THE HAGUE – A large number of businesses are failing to provide a smoke-free workplace. Regulations to ensure that all employees can work in a smoke-free environment were introduced three years ago.

This has emerged from information published by the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (VWA) on Friday.

The VWA carried out inspections at about 1,400 businesses in the second half of 2006. One in five companies was issued a written warning or fine for violations of these regulations.
