Oldest seal in captivity dies at 53: Dutch zoo
The world's oldest seal in captivity has died aged 53, an animal park at Rhenen in central Netherlands announced Tuesday.
The seal, known as Else, died on Monday.
"She was the oldest seal in captivity in the world. She was almost blind but she spent her last days enjoyably," Ouwenhands Animal Park official Natalie Oudenhoven told AFP.
The female seal was born in a zoo in Amsterdam and was moved to Rhenen in 2001 after her companion Dolf died there at the age of 39.
