Nurses face constant sexual harassment

More than a third of nursing and care workers have faced sexual harassment. Research carried out by Bijzijn, the magazine for healthcare workers, show that more than half the cases involve remarks of a sexual nature and a third involve physical contact.

Mathilde Bos, a nurse who is speaking at a congress in Utrecht today entitled Sex, Intimacy and Harassment, says this is just the tip of the iceberg. She estimates that more like 98 percent of nursing personnel are confronted with sexual harassment. "That includes sexually-slanted compliments". She adds that male nursing staff seldom admit to being the victims of sexual harassment.
