ADELAIDE – For the fourth consecutive time the Nuon Solar Team from the Technical University Delft has won the World Solar Challenge, a race for solar powered cars.

The solar car Nuna4 crossed the finish line at 4.55pm local time, five minutes before the deadline, near Adelaide, Australia, a spokesperson announced.

The Nuna4 had to cover 770 km on Thursday. The team was expected to make the finish line just in time for the deadline, or shortly after. "Partly because of the strong wind, which allowed speeds of about 110 km per hour on the last stretch, we made it just in time. We were greeted by a crowd of students dressed in orange at the finish line. There was also a lot of press."

The race is not completely finished for the Nuon Solar Team. On Friday they will drive into Adelaide, "as a sort of victory round."
