Nuon, Eneco and Essent plan price hikes for 2009
The three largest Dutch energy providers will all raise their charges for electricity and gas from 1 January.
THE NETHERLANDS – Essent has announced a price rise of nine percent. Eneco and Nuon say they intend to raise their prices from 1 to 22 percent.
On average, customers of the three firms will see their energy bills go up by between 100 and 190 euros a year.
The prices arise out of the sharp increase in the price of oil between May and October.
In the middle of next year, however, electricity and gas costs will be re-evaluated given that the price of oil has now fallen drastically from its July record of 147 euros a barrel.
