Number of AH1N1 flu patients nearing 1500

The number of people who have been infected with AH1N1 flu in the Netherlands stands at 1,473, the Institute for National Health and the Environment (RIVM) said on Friday after its latest count.

The spread is limited, although the increase from 1000 on Tuesday is steep, the institute says.
 
28 patients have been admitted to hospital. Most infections took place abroad, mainly in Spain; only 20 percent picked up the germs in the Netherlands.

The age group most affected are 15 to 19-year-olds, closely followed by 20 to 24-year olds.
