AMSTERDAM — The cost of parking is a regular complaint in Dutch cities, but motorists who sing a song at the entrance of the Haagweg car park in Leiden between 5-7pm on Thursday will be able to park for free for 24 hours.

The scheme is linked to the Scratch Muziekdagen (Scratch Music Days) and is part of the parking campaign "Place for You". The campaign is designed to inform visitors to the university city of Leiden where they can park easily.

The Scratch Music Days festival is being held in the Leidse Pieterskerk from 12 to 15 February, newspaper De Telegraaf reported.

The festival attracted about 3,500 participants last year performing operas and musicals from "scratch" without rehearsals.

It draws people from all over the Netherlands, but with the added bonus of free parking, the festival could be a whole lot more popular this year.
