AMSTERDAM – The Christian Democrat CDA faction in Parliament wants an end to the illegitimate use of study financing by prisoners.

The Algemeen Dagblad reported on Saturday that prisoners often use the grants awarded for purposes other than study.

The CDA MPs are not pleased that prisoners are able to apply for and be granted scholarships for students not living at home.

They are asking Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin (CDA) whether a stop can be put to this within the existing regulations or if a change to legislation is needed.

Geert Wilders’ Freedom Party (PVV) wants clarification from the justice and education ministers on this kind of abuse of public funds during question time in Parliament on Tuesday.
