THE HAGUE - A talk between a number of honorary members of the liberal VVD and Rita Verdonk on Wednesday evening did not lead to a solution in the conflict between Verdonk and the VVD party.

Verdonk said after the meeting that she would continue to occupy her seat in Parliament and also remain a member of the VVD.

Verdank met with Henk Vonhoff, Frits Korthals Altes, and Erica Terpstra at a hotel in The Hague for several hours.

The aim was to find a way out of the situation that has arisen since Verdonk was expelled from the VVD faction.

The VVD wants her to either relinquish her seat or leave the party. Verdonk refuses to do either.

Verdonk says the atmosphere during the talk was good, but that there will be no further talks. Terpstra confirmed this.

A VVD spokesperson said that the party executive will meet as soon as possible to discuss the case. One option may be to expel Verdonk from the party.
