THE HAGUE – No signs of the dreaded foot and mouth disease have yet been found in the Netherlands, according to a spokesperson for the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority.

The VWA has been busy since Saturday carrying out checks of livestock at the 150 companies  that have been involved in about 380 livestock transports between the Netherlands and Great Britain since the beginning of June.

The VWA spokesperson expects that the last inspections will be carried out on Wednesday. The VWA has commissioned veterinarians to carry out the checks.

The doctors are examining every animal for symptoms of the disease. They are also taking random blood tests. No symptoms of FMD have been found in the past few days.
