The number of people that hold another passport in addition to a Dutch passport will not drop substantially. The new proposal reducing dual nationality contains so many exceptions, that Turks and Moroccans can continue having two passports without any problems. This emerged from an explanatory note from the ministry of justice.

Nor is it the intention to phase out dual nationality, the responsible Minister of Justice Ernst Hirsch Balling said on Friday. "We want to respectfully address the phenomenon of dual nationality, that’s here to stay".

Parliament is satisfied. The right wing parties feel that the proposal is acceptable despite the fact that it is too cautious.
