THE NETHERLANDS -- Accounting firm Ernst & Young says it could find no proof that Environment Minister Jacqueline Cramer signed a petition in 1986 in support of the radical magazine Bluf! which published documents stolen from a government ministry containing plans for nuclear reactors.

Right-wing MPs have been calling for an investigation into Cramer's past, saying it is unacceptable that a government minister previously supported illegal actions.

However, Cramer says she does not remember signing the petition and points out there are two misspellings in the signature.

Ernst & Young were asked to look into the matter. The firm says, after all this time, it is impossible to ascertain whether or not the environment minster was personally asked to sign the petition.
