No new Afghanistan mission proposal yet
Defence Minister Hans Hillen says he does not expect the government to launch a proposal for a new mission in Afghanistan before 2011.
Speaking after the weekly cabinet session, the defence minister said the government is studying the findings of a team that has returned from Afghanistan, where it explored the options for a new mission. The cabinet is considering which options to pursue, the minister added.
The team that traveled to Afghanistan included police officers, military personnel and diplomats. Mr Hillen refused to say where in Afghanistan the team had been. Before leaving, the team it announced it would not visit Uruzgan, the province where Dutch troops were in charge until August.
The options the cabinet will explore include training Afghan police forces.
