Damage to a power transmission line disrupted supply of hot water and left 40,000 homes without municipal heating for hours on Monday evening.

ALMERE – About 40,000 homes in Almere, a town close to Amsterdam, were left without municipal heating for hours on Monday evening.

The problem arose when a power transmission line was damaged and led to the supply of hot water to the municipal system being cut.

After the electricity supply was resumed, it took some time before Almere's hot water was flowing again as the cold water in the system had to be replaced.

Energy company Nuon said the municipal heating system was working normally again at around 11 pm.
