No champagne for PVV in The Hague
Freedom Party PVV councillors in The Hague say they will again boycott the city's New Year’s reception. The PVV's councillors, who also refused to attend last year as well, say the party simply costs too much. The Hague city council has budgeted €125,000 for its annual New Year's reception.
PVV councillor Machiel de Graaf says, "It’s a ridiculous amount of money, especially in the middle of an economic crisis."
Earlier this year, The Hague city council announced plans to cut €8.5 million from its poverty prevention programmes as well as cutting subsidies for all cultural and social services by 7.7%.
The parties in the coalition governing The Hague agreed to cut €152 million from the city's budget over the next four years.
