THE NETHERLANDS - Public Health Minister Ab Klink says that he has decided not to implement an automatic organ-donor programme in the Netherlands as it will not lead to more people donating organs.

However, the existing organ donor cards will have an additional choice added to them. In future, people will be able to check the box saying: "Yes, I will donate my organs as long as my next of kin agree".

If people do not carry organ donor cards, the choice is automatically left to the next of kin.
