UTRECHT – Travellers were able to purchase tickets from the ticket machines at train stations using their PIN pass today without any problem. The NS had predicted on Tuesday that there could be problems again with the PIN system during the morning rush hour on Wednesday.

At certain times on Monday and Tuesday travellers were unable to use their PIN passes at most ticket machines because of problems in the network of the payment system. KPN, which provides the network, could not guarantee the NS that a similar problem would not occur again.

Since the network did not fail this morning it is not clear what caused the problem on previous days. "We will only know that if it goes wrong again," says a spokesperson.

"It may just have been two unrelated incidents. Or perhaps the thunderstorms had something to do with it."
