Nine hurt in Dutch boat blast
Nine people were injured late Monday when a motorboat exploded on a lake in the northwest Netherlands, police said.
North Holland region police spokeswoman Petrie Koemen told AFP that two people had been seriously burned while seven, including four children, suffered less severe burns in the incident on Lake Alkmaar.
Witnesses said the explosion occurred after the boat's engine was switched on as it lay at anchor with other pleasure craft off a marina by the lakeside.
The blast hurled the occupants of the motorboat and other craft -- about 15 adults and children all from the same family -- into the water, local media reported.
They were picked up by other boats and taken ashore where they were looked after by emergency services, Koemen said.
