AMSTELVEEN – A man was killed during the presumed robbery of a night-shop in Amstelveen on Thursday night. The 62-year-old man was an employee of the shop, a police spokesperson said Friday.
Two men entered the shop at about 11 pm and stabbed the victim, presumably with a knife. He was taken to hospital and died there as a result of serious injuries.
The perpetrators fled on a scooter into the nearby Amsterdam Bos. The police have not yet made any arrests.
There were no customers in the shop at the time of the incident, though it was open for business. It is still unknown if the perpetrators took anything from the shop.
The same shop was robbed in May last year, Amsterdam police confirmed. Three men entered the shop on 2 May 2006 and forced the shop employee to hand over the money from the till while threatening him with a gun. The perpetrators in that incident also fled into the Amsterdam Bos. The employee was not hurt, nor were any customers in the shop.
On 8 February this year the 29-year-old owner of night-shop La Nuit in Amsterdam-Noord was shot and killed in a robbery. He had just appeared on a television news programme a few days earlier complaining about the robberies at his shop. The police arrested four suspects in the case in March.
