Nigel de Jong out of Dutch squad

4th October 2010, Comments 0 comments

Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong will not be playing for Holland in the upcoming two qualifying matches for the 2012 European Championships after his “horror tackle” at the weekend.

The 'tackle' left Newcastle United’s Hatem Ben Arfa with a fractured leg. The Holland manager Bert van Marwijk said he’d broached the issue with De Jong before, following a series of other dangerous challenges.

The Dutch team is due to play away against Moldova on 7 October and at home against Sweden on 12 October.

Mr van Marwijk has meanwhile picked FC Twente midfielder Wout Brama and Urby Emanuelson of Ajax Amsterdam to complete his 22-man squad.
