ENSCHEDE – The newspaper Twentsche Courant Tubantia wants Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin to release the national criminal investigation's report on the firework disaster in Enschede in May 2000.

The newspaper has asked the court in Almelo to force the minister to do so on grounds of the Public Information Act. The newspaper announced this today.

The newspaper believes it is of great importance to society that the report be published. The 2004 report may contain evidence that the police team investigating the disaster wanted to mislead the court.

The court found in favour of the newspaper in January and ruled that the minister could not refuse to release the report. Hirsch Ballin did not comply however.
