New Dutch cabinet to be installed
After 127 days of negotiations since the parliamentary elections, the minority conservative VVD and Christian Democrat cabinet will be installed today. VVD leader Mark Rutte will be the first liberal prime minister of the Netherlands since 1918.
The ministers are coming together this morning for a so-called constitutional consultation. This is an official meeting in which they will set up the new government and sign agreements. Then the ministers and deputy ministers will be inaugurated at the palace. During the ceremony they will take an oath of allegiance to the constitution and promise to fulfil their duties. Ministers from the outgoing cabinet do not need to be inaugurated a second time. The new government ministers will then pose with Queen Beatrix on the steps outside Huis ten Bosch Palace for a traditional photo.
Once the formalities have been completed, the ministers will return to their departments for an official handover. The first cabinet meeting will be held on Friday.
