AMSTERDAM — The flu epidemic in the Netherlands is over, the National Influenza Centre (NIC) said on Friday.
In the past week, 13 people out of 10,000 were sick with the flu. For there to be talk of an epidemic, there must be 15 people ill per 10,000.
The NIC said on 18 February that the Netherlands was in the midst of a flu epidemic. The number of sick people peaked at 27 per 10,000.
The provinces of Zeeland, North Brabant and Limburg were the hardest hit, with an average of 67 sick people per 10,000 reported.
The nation-wide epidemic has been declining since the start of this month, newspaper De Telegraaf reported.
The NIC said the highest number of sick people in the past week was being reported in North and South Holland, where 17 people per 10,000 were ill with the flu.
