The 112-year-old woman who never enjoyed media attention died in a Rotterdam nursing home on Tuesday.

Rotterdam – The Netherlands' oldest inhabitant, a 112-year-old woman, has died in a Rotterdam nursing home, news reports said Thursday.

Born on 12 September 1897, Greta Jansen-Anker survived two World Wars and lived through such historic moments as the first-ever airplane flight in 1903 and the first man walking on the moon in 1969.

Jansen-Anker had lived independently until the age of 102.

In 2008, she moved into a nursing home with her daughter, in her eighties, said Dutch news agency ANP.

"She did not enjoy attention being paid to her title," it said. "The media was never welcome at her birthday; even the mayor was refused when he wanted to bring a cake on her birthday."

A death notice in the Provinciale Zeeuwse Courant local newspaper said Jansen-Anker died on Tuesday.

The world's oldest person, 115-year-old African-American woman Gertrude Baines, died in Los Angeles in September.
