Netherlands: no air mail or air freight from Yemen

A spokesperson for the National Coordinator for Counterterrorism has said that mail and freight from Yemen will not be allowed to enter the country by air for the time being.

The temporary measure has been taken as a precaution following the interception of two bomb packages in Dubai and the United Kingdom. Both packages were sent from Yemen and transported by air by courier services UPS and FedEx. US officials said they were addressed to Chicago synagogues.

The spokesman added that there were no direct cargo or passenger flights from Yemen to the Netherlands but there was "limited" traffic from Yemen via other airports. "We expect that the impact on the sector will also be limited," he said.

Britain, Germany, the United States and Canada have already tightened air security measures from Yemen after the parcel bomb plot was uncovered late Thursday.
