In Saturday’s football friendly against Japan, the Netherlands won 3-0.

The Netherlands - The goals by Van Persie, Sneijder and Huntelaar all fell in the second half. Celtic player Glenn Loovens and Vitesse keeper Piet Velthuizen made their debut in the national team.

Up to now there have been no disturbances, but police were concerned that Premier League club hooligans might have been planning to use the match in the eastern city of Enschede as an excuse for a fight.

Consequently there is a heavy police presence in the city centres of Enschede and nearby Hengelo and police have been granted extra powers.

A handful of supporters have been arrested.
