AMSTERDAM – The Netherlands Railways (NS) will soon be making entrance turnstiles accessible for the OV chip card. Travellers throughout the country will be able to pay for single or return journeys with the new card before the end of the year.

The NS announced this at the start of a new campaign to promote the use of the chip card in a trial area in and around Rotterdam. The transport company will be handing out ten thousand cards with EUR 4.50 credit each.

"The trial was on a relatively small scale so far, we now want to test the system with a much larger group of travellers," an NS spokesperson said. "The new trial period will run until the second half of April."
