ENSCHEDE – Rheumatism patients get the best treatment in the Netherlands, according to an international quality study presented by the Medical Spectrum Twente (MST) on Friday.

60 rheumatism treatment centres in 18 countries took part in the study organised by an American university. The Medical Spectrum Twente, University Medical Centre Utrecht and the St. Fransiscus Hospital in Rotterdam represented the Netherlands.

Every practice examined 100 patients with chronic rheumatism of the joints last year. The degree of pain in 28 joints, the erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and the patient's well being were all examined.

Rheumatologist Ina Kuter of the MST says rheumatism patients in the Netherlands have good access to the specialists and the newest medications.
