THE HAGUE – The 24-year-old woman shot dead at Alkmaar train station last week had first reported her husband for domestic violence four years ago.
This has emerged from an overview of the facts that Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin gave Parliament during an emergency debate last night.
The police and public prosecution department (OM) did not follow up on the report because the woman told the authorities shortly after filing the report that her relationship had returned to normal. After a second assessment it was decided to question the man anyway, but at that point the man appeared to be missing. He was reported missing in May 2004.
There was no more contact with police until the victim filed another domestic violence report last October. A month later she told police that her ex-husband was stalking her.
