AMSTERDAM – Thanks to higher property tax and sewage charges, Dutch municipalities will see an increase of almost 7 percent in their municipal tax revenue compared to last year, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) calculates.

The medium-sized municipalities in particular will see a dramatic increase in revenue because several of them have increased their property tax to the maximum rate permitted.

The revenue from sewage charges will rise by almost 12 percent this year to EUR 1.1 billion. Many municipalities will put this extra money into improving the sewage system. Maintenance on the systems is overdue in many areas.
