MADRID — Spanish police have arrested a Dutch citizen believed to be one of the biggest smugglers of the party drug Ecstasy to the US.
The man, identified as 44-year-old Ronald H., is suspected by authorities in the Netherlands of having shipped more than 4 million doses of the drug, also known as MDMA, to the United States between 2000 and 2004.
No value was put on the amount of drugs the suspect is alleged to have smuggled, but it is likely to amount to hundreds of millions of euros.
Spanish police said he was arrested on Monday in the southern town of Benalmadena.
They said he was carrying at the time of his arrest a forged Dutch passport and driver's license.
