Most Polish migrants leaving the Netherlands

The Dutch statistics office CBS says nearly 60 percent of Polish people who came to the Netherlands after 2000 have now left the country.

The percentage is slightly lower than that of Spanish and Italian workers who came to the Netherlands in the 1960s and 1970s but later left. However, it is much higher than the percentage of Turkish and Moroccan migrant workers who decided to return home.

Of the Poles who leave the Netherlands, 90 percent return to Poland, about 5 percent go to Germany and smaller percentages travel on to Belgium and the United Kingdom. Last year, about 13,000 Poles came to the Netherlands, around 1,000 fewer than in 2008.
